South Korea’s presidential frontrunner, Lee Myung-bak, serves as a reminder of the strong influence of Christianity on not only the country’s politics, but also on its economy and social life. Lee is an elder in one of South Korea’s largest churches, Somang Presbyterian Church, according to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. He is also said to be strongly supported by South Korea’s large Christian population, which makes up about 30 percent of the country. But Christians were not always as sizable or influential as they are today.

Canadian MP Introduces “Transgender” to the Hate Crimes Act (Christian Worldview/Issues)
An NDP Member of Parliament has introduced a bill to add yet another in a growing and long list of groups to the hate crimes act. Now its the “transgendered” who are being presented as an “identifiable group” against whom it would be a criminal offence to “discriminate.” Bill Siksay, MP for Burnaby-Douglas in British Columbia who is himself a homosexual, has introduced, bill C-494, that would add the terms “gender identity” and “gender expression” to the criminal code under the section addressing “hate crimes”. Siksay is well known as one of Canada’s most energetic Parliamentary homosexual activists who has recently made “transgender” a key focus of his work. This is the second time he has put forward a bill that would attempt to recognise the “transgendered” as a political reality.

United bosses today confirmed the technology was being considered although no decision had been taken. But they rubbished reports of a revolt by players who are concerned they could be tracked off the pitch shopping or nightclubbing. It is believed the technology has been used in South America, where footballers have been kidnapped. t has also been considered by the medical profession in the United States so doctors can access information if a patient is unconscious.

Bird flu has resurfaced in parts of Asia, with human deaths reported in Indonesia and China and fresh poultry outbreaks plaguing other countries during the winter months when the virus typically flares. Indonesia, the nation hardest hit by the H5N1 virus, announced its 93rd death on Friday. A 47-year old man fell ill December 2 and was admitted to a Jakarta hospital with flu-like symptoms, but he died Thursday, Health Ministry spokesman Joko Suyono said. The man was the 115th Indonesian infected with the disease. The military in China’s eastern Nanjing province banned the sale of poultry this week after a father and son were sickened by the disease earlier. Health officials confirmed a 24-year-old man died from the virus earlier this month, and that his father, 52, also fell sick. The son was the 17th person killed by H5N1 in China.
